  Introduction

"Jangzhon" is the first Tibetan language literary journal in exile. It was started by Pema Bhum in December 1990 and he was its first editor. The editorial board then consisted of Palden Gyal, Tsepak Rigzin, Dorjee Tseten, This team managed to bring out five issues. In1993 when Pema Bhum became a director of AMI, the journal was henceforth published by AMI. The new editorial board included Dorjee Tseten, Palden Gyal, Pema Bhum, Tashi Tsering, Jampa Gyaltsen Drakthon, and Gompo Tsering. The present editor is Tashi Tsering.

The advent of this journal inspired other such publications in exile society, namely: Enduring "Snow" (Gangs rgyun,1990, Varanasi), "Great Snow Music Forum" (Gangs can rol stegs, 1992, Dharamshala), "The Snort of a Yak" (G-yag gu'i har sgra, 1992, Suja School, Bir ), "Ripples" (Rlabs Phreng, 1992 Kirti Buddhist Academy, Dharamshala), "Garden" (Ldumra, 1993 Drepung Gomang, Mundgod), "Youth of Snow" (Gangs ri'i lang tsho, 1994, TMAI, Dharamshala), "Losel Happy Literary Grove" (Blo gsel rtsom rig dga' tshal,1995, Drepung Loseling, Mundgod), "Barley Meal" (Rtsam pa,1995, Dharamshala), "The Light of Shakya" (Shakye od-nang, 1998, Drepung Gomang, Mundgod) "Light of the Jewel" (Nor'od, 1998, Norbulingka Institute, Dharamshala).
