Tibet in the Post-Deng Era May 17 to 18, 1994 |
||||
|
Dharamshala, India Department of Information and International Relations
This seminar was held under our Occupied
Tibet Studies Programme. A number of Tibetan China-experts contributed
papers on: Life of Deng Xiaoping, Changes in China & Implications for Tibet,
China after Deng: Scenarios & Strategies, Literary and Cultural Conjectures
on Changes in China, No Freedom on a Plate: Scenarios in Post-Deng Tibet.
The papers and the discussions clearly brought out the complexities
of China's many problems including leadership succession, corruption,
economic disparity, social dislocation and ideological bankruptcy. Many
suggestions were also presented for the Tibetan government and people
to benefit from the impending crisis in China.
All the China experts at his seminar were near unanimous in their conclusion
that the death of Deng Xiaopeng would not alter Chinese policies in Tibet
nor contribute to any discernable changes in Sino-Tibetan relationships.
The proceedings of this seminar have been published in 1995. See our
books published under the
Occupied Tibet Series for more information.

On this occasion the 6th issue of Jang-zhon was launched by Kalön
